Harvest Festival (10/24)

As if the service projects of week before had not been enough our students also helped out with the games that are a huge hit every year at our annual Harvest Festival. This event is an excellent event for the students to make a huge, positive impact on the younger children of the church. They ran their games with a lot of energy and did a fantastic job this year. October has been a month of service and our students have performed admirably!

Fall Break Service (10/17)

During the Fall and Spring Breaks for school it has proven hard to know who will be in town and available to attend our regularly scheduled midweeks. A couple years ago we simply started holding one social event for both Jr High and Sr High groups. This year we decided to stretch the students a little and made it a service project. All said and done we painted some landscaping walls, cleaned baseboards and ceiling fans, pulled weeds, moped floors, waxed cars and a host of other projects for several members of our church, who were very much appreciative of the students' efforts. The students stepped up and worked hard on a hot day. The Student Ministries at Bridgeway did an excellent job of pulling its own weight this day!

Event Descriptions

Novum (Jan):

Novum is our New Year's event. A quick explanation of the name: "Novum" is Latin for new. Novum is an outreach event designed to be high energy and loaded with fun. We attempt to create an environment our students are excited to invite their non-churched friends to. At the beginning of this event the Gospel message is given in hopes that a decision will be made for the Lord.

Winter Camps (Jan/Feb):

Winter camps are a weekend retreat where the students are pushed in the growth of their faith. Every year the Gospel is given for the benefit of any friends who might have been invited, but the emphasis at the end of the week is on how the students can return to thier normal schedules and live a life that is pleasing to the Lord. Winter Camps have always been a time of incredible worship and growth.

Man2Student Ministry (May):

Man2Student Ministry is an event where I have asked the adult males (Man2Man Ministries) to help out. I only allow male students 13 and older to attend this event. There are rugged challenges, manly (painful) games and the opportunity for younger men to rub shoulders with older (wiser?) men. Talks are given on what it means to be a man spiritually in our society today. It is a challenging event that puts hair on our boys' chests.

Summer Camps (June):

Summer camps are a lengthened version of winter camp. It is an intense week of spiritual emphasis. It is becoming increasingly costly with the gas prices, but it is an event where we often see the most spiritual growth in student's lives. It also becomes a great avenue for the students to forge new relationships with others in the ministry. It is hard to live in the same cabin with someone for a week and not know them better. Our strength as a family and a ministry comes from our times at summer camp.

Back to School Outreach (Aug):

Like Novum, this event is an outreach event. While the name seem to change from year to year the idea is usualy the same.. It is twelve packed hours of fun, usually held overnight. Again, there is a Gospel presentation and we have seen many decisions made for the Lord in the previous years. While this is a brutal event for the adults (who no longer have the ability to stay up all night and function as a rational human being the next day) it has been a powerful and effective event.

30 Hour Famine (Sept):

This event is one of the most impacting events we have done. The students collect pledges from neighbors, family, friends and teachers for 30 hours of fasting. During the 30-hour long fast we get together and participate in service projects throughout our community and eye-opening events that educate us on the poverty experienced throughout the majority of the world. I am awed every year at how much fun the students have while they refrain from eating anything for 30 straight hours!
